Balance: practising in a safe environment

Space security is a first step before the difficulty of exercises.

Balance and daily

Turning, spanning or moving around in a room requires stability. Adapted exercises can work the balance. To begin with, the priority is a safe environment and a difficulty compatible with your level.

Prepare the place

Remove obstacles and choose an accessible stable support. Do not start near a slippery carpet or fragile object. If you have fallen, are often stunned or afraid to fall, ask for an accompaniment rather than follow an online challenge alone. Exercise doesn't need to be spectacular to be useful to your goal.

  • Find a support that doesn't move.
  • Keep a clear area and sufficient lighting.
  • Explain the movements and their adaptations.

An example to adapt to your daily life

You want to follow a balanced video in the living room. Before you start, remove the obstacles and check that a stable support is accessible. If you have already dropped or feel dizzy, look for an accompaniment rather than a solitary trial. Ask for a version corresponding to your abilities. The objective is a safe and useful movement in everyday life, not a difficult posture made for a photo. A new loss of stability deserves a discussion on possible causes.

Talking about falls

A repeated fall or a change in balance is worthy of notice. Medications, vision and other factors may need to be examined. A routine exercise should not be used to conclude that the problem comes only from a lack of will or muscle.
