Skin spots and moles: knowing when to seek an examination

Distinguish an aesthetic concern from a change that deserves consultation.

The camouflage is not the evaluation

A stain can hinder your look on the face without being painful. Before looking for a cosmetic correction, be interested in its history: since when is it present, has it changed, is it bleeding or is it still open? An unusual evolution deserves a professional examination.

Preparing useful information

Note the date you noticed the change and the exact location. A dated photo can help to tell the evolution, provided you do not apply a filter or retouch. Avoid trying an aggressive product on an unidentified lesion and do not wait for a beauty appointment to ask for a medical opinion.

  • Report a change in shape, colour or size.
  • Examine a wound that does not heal normally.
  • Indicate the treatments already applied in the area.

An example to adapt to your daily life

You will discover a small area of which you do not know the old aspect. Note where it is located, possibly take a photo without retouching and organize a review. Do not try to test its nature with a thinning or abrasive product. If you already have old images, they can help to tell the story, without replacing the examination. A correct preparation aims to provide useful elements to the doctor, not to oblige you to classify each spot yourself.

After the evaluation

Depending on what is identified, aesthetic expectations can be discussed separately. Solar protection is part of the routine, but it does not allow to judge the nature of a stain. The site provides benchmarks; no remote image should be presented as a reliable diagnosis.
